Median Living

Posted by Shawn

I heard about something called "Median Living", in which you commit to living on the national median income (about$46k) and give the rest to the Lord.

In theory, I find it very exciting. In practice, I pray that God can give me wisdom and will.

What if you are living under the median?

Good question.

I suppose what I'm more attracted to is the idea of living off of what you need as opposed off of all that you make, whatever that may be.

Median is just a starting point to think about. If you're living under median and that meets your need, then good.

If you're need is not being met, then this wouldn't apply, of course.

I believe that this is the principle the saints where practicing in Acts 2:42-47.

I can say that it has helped us to learn to minimize unneedful spending, which has been a good lesson. Learning the difference between like and need is quite the challenge!

I so hear you.

in reflecting on Isaiah 58, the current squeeze on finances, personally, locally and nationally, has really made me look carefully at my priorities and whether I'm really depending on God or myself.

I hate to admit it, but it feels like false idols are falling out of my trees like leaves in the fall.
