I've gotten some very good feedback from everyone about my blog, directly and indirectly.
The most notable is that there really aren't any comments. Sure there are a few, the openers; the polite and friendly "cool, it looks interesting".
(Of course, you shouldn't read sarcasm into that statement. Those types of comments are just as welcomed, valid, and valuable to me as any others. They've honestly encouraged me because I know people are reading.)
The comments that are lacking, however, are the ones that address the content of actual posts, positive or negative.
First, most people that are reading this are new to the blogging medium and/or very busy.
Second, I'm new to blogging and have gotten very busy.
As to the first, please know that you needn't get deep into a subject if you can't/don't want to. You don't need to write a dissertation and defend it. If there is something (a word, sentence, phrase, paragraph) that moves you to comment, just say it.
And most certainly, if you disagree with me, then do so. If I'm wrong or not fully informed, then I'm wrong or not fully informed. Correct and inform me. I encourage it.
While I'm not looking for an argument, I might, of course, defend my position if I feel it needs defending. That's a good & healthy discourse.
And sure, you'll want to be as clear and concise as you can so that your goal is accomplished, which should be to edify, but recognize that it may take some practice before you get the hang of it. Feel free to log in anonymously or with a pseudonym if you want to practice commenting before identifying yourself (if ever). As John Piper aptly said, "Brothers, we are not professionals".
As to being busy, see above. Drop a simple note & pipe in here and there. Think of this as a dialog between a group of people sitting around drinking coffee while having a good conversation. You don't have to be a master of a subject to comment, nor do you need to fully compose a manuscript with a ready defense.
Just remember this, don't make anything personal, don't be obnoxious or vulgar, try to stay on topic, and enjoy the conversation.
As to the second, several of my posts have been very long and have delved deep into some of the more foggy or controversial subjects; in short, not very easy to comment back on.
Sorry about that.
I've been writing a paper for a class I'm taking and have simply been posting sections of it. I've become very interested and passionate about the subject and wanted to share it. Unfortunately, because of my schedule, I haven't really had the chance to chunk it down into more reasonable and managable bites.
I've turned in the paper (now hoping for a good grade) and intend on presenting the rest of the subject (the seed of Abraham series) in far smaller more digestible pieces.
Once that's done, or perhaps interleaved in, the next series I intend on blogging will be a study through the book of Matthew.
Other than that, I'll be linking to other more refined and better articulated bloggers and articles as well as posting interesting bits of information or thoughts.
Finally, I'm thinking that I'd like to have guest posters from time to time. If you're interested, please let me know and we'll talk.
