If you haven't done so already, I'd like to suggest that you read through the preface of your Bible (and as many other Bible translations as you can.) You might learn something pretty interesting and very useful.

As an example, the preface to my ESV has a section titled “The Translation of Specialized Terms”. One of the specialized terms listed is “Behold”, “which has usually been retained as the most common translation for the Hebrew word hinneh and the Greek word idou.”

What both of these terms mean, which of course defines what the English translation “behold” means, is that you must pay careful attention to what is about to be said because it's very important.

Unfortunately, “other than the word 'behold', there is no single word in English that fits well in most contexts. Although 'Look!' and 'See!' and 'Listen!' would be workable in some contexts, in many others these words lack sufficient weight and dignity."

Behold! Now that you know, keep this in mind as you read through the Scriptures, where the term is used in 1016 verses, first in Genesis chapter 1 and last in Revelations chapter 22.

If you're anything like me, it'll transform how you study. Consider it like an excercise of putting the correct emphasis on the right syllable.
