I can't recommend enough this fantastic post on poetry over at Dan Phillips blog. It starts out light-heartedly poking fun at Karston Piper and is quickly followed by tight camaraderie with the knee-jerk laughter and taunting of "them", which is all well and good.
But then Karston shows up at 11:45, and taking it all well in stride, posts some wonderful insight that I'm still digesting as I write this (and likely will for a while yet to come.)
FWIW, my absolute favorite line: "...your first sentence, the one about bad poetry, is a perfectly pulled espresso shot. But why pour it into the mug of Internatinal Delight Chemical Persimmon Flavored nondairy creamer you wrote after that?"
Oh, and I think I'll remember the term "flabby poetry" for some time to come; I can't wait to use it.
Now to go figure out how best to print and frame that Mary Karr poem for my house...
