I was involved in a conversation with someone today regarding a personal struggle that they're going through. Unfortunately, I'm still uncertain about the spiritual condition of this person. I've certainly inquired and have engaged in many conversations with this person, but I'm just not exactly sure where they are in regards to salvation.
*sigh*
A strong recommendation to take the issue before the Lord in prayer was on the tip of my tongue, as I was listening to the personal struggle. Be that as it may, I said nothing. Instead, I opted to encourage them with words; pointing out were I thought they were perhaps losing the battle in this issue.
What occured to me was the thought that if this person doesn't know the Lord as one of His children, then why should they have any reasonable expectation of receiving a positive reponse?
Basically, would you suggest to your friend that they knock on the door 3 houses up from them and ask to borrow some money to pay the mortgage, knowing that that very neighbor has had very serious issues with your friend for years and years, which they've been attempting to reconcile without success?
Instead, as I mentioned, I provided whatever encouragement that I could to them and have committed to praying on their behalf before the Lord of Lords; first for an opportunity to speak to them regarding salvation and lastly to help them through their current struggle.
What do you think, am I out of line here?
