As anyone reading this blog who knows me will know that I travel a good bit of the time. Part of my travel routine involves using the time "alone" to get as deep into the Word in study as I can.
What I've discovered in this process is how unbelievably often just having my Bible open will lead to a wonderful opportunity to either witness for Christ or fellowship with a brother or sister in Christ. Nearly EVERY trip I've been on, in which I've had the Word opened in front of me, has been used by God to lead me into an opportunity for His sake.
I'm on my way to San Diego right now, laying over in Phoenix, and feeling absolutely terrible; being in the height of sickness, with my sinuses playing havock on me.
Well, wouldn't you know it, but I'm sitting here in a restaurant at the airport terminal, browsing the web on my laptop, having just finished lunch, when the waitress notices my ESV on the table. (I had it out when locating a reference for a Facebook post I was making while eating).
She started right away asking me if it was a Bible, and do I read it, and have I heard of Joel Olsteen and T.D. Jakes (sp?). Praise God!
I very politely (I hope) began explaining to her some of the issues with Post Modernism and Prosperity Driven Gospels (not necessarily using those exacts terms, mind you) as well as the benefits of finding a good Bible preaching expository church. I also recommended the ESV version to her in response to her stated issues with the KJV language.
I also pointed her to John McArthur and Phil Johnson's sites for examples of solid Bible preaching/teaching, with the suggestiong to find a Church that teaches like that.
Please praise God for the opportunities that He provides as well as for this young women.
As I said, Praise God!
